Saman Rahmanian is passionate about creating alignment between the brain, heart and soul. He casually drops a quote from Gandhi, “Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony.” And in business, he believes you don’t have to choose between doing good and doing well. Indeed, Saman’s primary “product,” his company Ro, is proof of that. He strives to create a culture that both serves patients where they are, and where his employees are excited to work — where their job brings meaning to their lives.

One way of achieving this, he says, is by reducing friction to make healthcare more convenient and accessible to patients. In this interview with Saman, he shares how behavioral design can create a more patient-centric healthcare, from decreasing friction by bringing healthcare to patient homes to promoting autonomy through self-service blood collection kits.

Tell me something I don’t know. (Anything!)

In a previous life, I was a creative director who worked in advertising. While I loved that work and how it allowed me to communicate and present ideas, I wanted to be closer to the design of a product itself — that’s what brought me to the product side.
